Bingo Clubs in Macduff and Nairn to close down |
| Two bingo clubs in the North of Scotland are to close down on June the 17th because of falling attendances. The Regal Ambassador Bingo Club on Skene St, Macduff, Banffshire, and The Ambassador Bingo & Social Club on the High Street in nearby Nairn are the two bingo halls affected. Both clubs were run by the Caira family who blame falling numbers for the closures. The number of players at the Regal Ambassador has fallen from 1,000-1,500 a week down to the current levels of 200-300, with last year's smoking ban the final nail in the coffin. With an estimated 70% of all bingo players being smokers, the ban saw a number of regulars stop going to bingo - and those who did spent less time in the halls. But it's not all doom and gloom. Following the last game on Sunday evening, buses will take bingo players from the Ambassador in Macduff to the Regal Ambassador in Nairn for a farewell party. |
